OVERLAY GLASS CRAFTSMANSHIP

Overlay glass is one of the most demanding techniques in glassmaking.

Multiple layers of coloured glass are carefully applied over a clear crystal base before the vessel is shaped, cooled, cut, polished, and refined entirely by hand. The process requires exceptional precision and extensive experience, as each stage directly influences the final depth, transparency, and brilliance of the piece.

The production of a single vase takes several months and involves numerous manual steps.

SCULPTURE & PRESENCE

The Octagon Pumpkin Vase is defined by its geometric silhouette and soft, rounded proportions.

Its faceted surface captures and reflects light differently throughout the day, revealing subtle variations in colour and transparency. Whether displayed empty as a sculptural object or arranged with flowers and branches, the vase creates a strong visual presence while maintaining a sense of refinement.

INDIVIDUAL CHARACTER

No two pieces are ever identical.

Minor variations in colour intensity, transparency, and hand-finishing are a natural result of the artisanal production process and form part of each vase's unique character.

Each piece is therefore not only a decorative object, but a singular work of craftsmanship.

ATELIER MONOCHROME - THE OVERLAY COLLECTION

Atelier Monochrome is a celebration of Beijing Glass — a centuries-old art form renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, luminous colours, and sculptural beauty.

Originating during the Qing Dynasty, this rare glassmaking tradition combines European techniques with Chinese artistry. Through the demanding overlay process, multiple layers of coloured glass are fused, shaped, cut, and polished entirely by hand, creating an extraordinary depth and brilliance that cannot be achieved through surface colouring alone.

Each vessel is the result of months of meticulous craftsmanship. Produced in limited quantities, every piece carries its own subtle variations, making it a unique expression of material, colour, and light.

Balancing historical craftsmanship with a contemporary design language, Atelier Monochrome transforms glass into collectible objects of enduring beauty.

A study in light.
A presence in stillness.
